In short

  • Checka is not an emergency service and cannot guarantee your safety. If you are in immediate danger, call 112.
  • 7-day free trial, then NOK 39 per month or NOK 299 per year.
  • The subscription renews automatically until you cancel it in the App Store or Google Play, at least 24 hours before renewal.
  • Trusted contacts never pay anything.

1. About Checka

Checka is a personal safety app for specific situations, for example on a date, when you meet someone new or when you walk home alone. You start a session, confirm along the way with your Safe PIN, and your trusted contacts are notified if you don’t confirm or if you trigger a silent alert. Checka is provided by [Company name AS] (“we”, “us”).

2. Checka is not an emergency service

Checka does not replace the police, the ambulance service or the fire service, and Checka does not contact the emergency services for you. If you or others are in immediate danger, call 112 (police). In the event of acute illness or injury, call 113. In the event of fire, call 110.

3. No guarantee of safety

Checka gives you an extra safety net, but cannot guarantee your safety or that anyone will come to help. Among other things, the service depends on

  • your phone having power, signal and an internet connection,
  • location services being turned on and providing an accurate location,
  • SMS and other messages being delivered by mobile operators and other providers, and
  • your trusted contacts seeing the message and being able to act.

The location your contacts see is the last one your phone sent – not necessarily where you are right now. Messages may be delayed or may not arrive at all.

4. Your responsibilities

  • Provide correct names and phone numbers, including for your trusted contacts.
  • Only add people you have good reason to believe will want to be your trusted contact. Contacts receive an invitation and can decline.
  • Keep your Safe PIN secret.
  • Checka may only be used for your own safety. Using Checka to track or monitor other people is not permitted.
  • Familiarise yourself with how the app works before you find yourself in a situation where you need it.

5. Trusted contacts

Trusted contacts don’t need the app or an account, and never pay anything. They receive SMS messages from Checka and can decline or stop at any time via the link in the message.

6. Subscription and payment

  • New users get a 7-day free trial.
  • After that, Checka costs NOK 39 per month or NOK 299 per year.
  • The subscription is bought and paid for through the App Store (Apple) or Google Play, and renews automatically for a new period unless you cancel it at least 24 hours before the current period ends. This also applies to the change from the free trial to a paid subscription.
  • You cancel in the subscription settings of the App Store or Google Play. Deleting the app does not cancel the subscription.
  • A session you have started continues until it ends, even if your subscription expires in the meantime. Without an active subscription, you cannot start new sessions.
  • Refunds and the right of withdrawal are handled in accordance with Apple’s or Google’s terms and applicable consumer law.
  • Price changes are announced well in advance and apply from the next subscription period at the earliest.

7. Privacy

How we process personal data is described in the privacy policy.

8. Changes to the service

We work to keep Checka available and working as described, but cannot promise that the service will always be free of errors or interruptions. We may change and further develop features.

9. Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for losses caused by the circumstances mentioned in section 3 or other circumstances beyond our control. This does not limit the rights you have as a consumer under mandatory law.

10. Termination

You can stop using Checka and delete your account at any time in the app. We may close accounts that are used in breach of these terms, for example to track other people.

11. Changes to these terms

If we make significant changes, we will let you know in the app before the changes take effect.

12. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by Norwegian law. We try to resolve disagreements amicably. As a consumer, you can also get help from the Norwegian Consumer Council (Forbrukerrådet) and bring the matter before Forbrukerklageutvalget, the Norwegian consumer complaints body.
